Thoughts on "Thoughts"

I was planning an employee meeting the other day and was trying to think of a quote or slogan to motivate my staff.  During this quest, my mind wandered to several other thoughts and finally to a place that humbled me greatly.

Most people like to think of themselves as intelligent and capable of creating new ideas.  Our brain is a muscle and, like all muscles, it gets trained to work in a certain way by our occupation, social life and the things we read and study.  We work through the problems placed before us by using our experiences or the things we've been taught by others through their experiences.  So, this brought a question to my mind.  How intelligent are we....really?

As I was preparing for my meeting, I had several priorities that needed discussed and goals I needed my people to achieve, but the explanations and motivations for these goals were not groundbreaking.  I intentionally simplified it as much as possible so that the steps to achieve these goals were manageable, but every one of the points I made were not my own ideas.  They were the guidelines laid out by our company and a group of people from those particular departments responsible for setting up the processes.  At the meeting, I came across as the "expert" by simply repeating the instructions that were handed down to me.

So, I thought of our world in a broader perspective.  I thought back to all the "Great Discoveries" over the centuries.  It occurred to me that all of these things happened like a flight of stairs.  Someone made an observation  that was a result of doing the work in their occupation, then someone else took that idea or observation and happened upon another discovery...so on...so...on and so on...until we have arrived here.

Now, backing up to the very beginning of mankind, there had to be something that created this chain of events.  Some moment in which the human brain made its first leap forward, the nudge or push that caused the neurons to start flying....what was that?  Some would argue it was the instinct to survive others claim environmental pressure (which I laugh at because its just in vogue right now) while others would claim Divine Intervention or....God.

I heard a professor from a Christian Seminary say that "science is just thinking God's thoughts after him".  Well, isn't that true about all intelligent revelations?  We work through life trying to solve one problem or another, challenging ourselves to be better, faster and more productive.  Yet, we have these moments of clarity when the solution is provided....the "Aha" moment.  Those are the moments that are THAT ARE TRULY A BLESSING, because that is the moment that WE CONNECTED WITH GOD MENTALLY AND SPIRITUALLY.  We were given some insight from him through whatever method to move ourselves forward personally or as a culture.

So, when I thought back over the course of time again, it became easier to see how God plays a role in our societal development.  There will always be the fight between good and evil and truth and untruth, but Christians should be able to move through the challenges with greater ease.  We already understand the truth of God and we already have the tools to make these divine connections.  It's through prayer, meditation and reading his word in the Bible.

So, ask yourself, are you using these tool to their full potential?  Are you lacking in "Aha" moments with God?  What would you do to change that?
